How do I schedule a parent/teacher conference?
To schedule a conference, please send a note of request in your child's HW notebook or email your request. A response will be returned and a conference will be scheduled as soon as possible. PLEASE, NO IMPROMPTU conferences especially at 8:25 a.m. when class is beginning.
When are spelling, reading, Bible, and math tests given each week?
The children must say the weekly Bible verse on Thursdays. Spelling and reading tests are given on Fridays. If we are out of school on a Friday, then tests will usually be given on a Thursday. Timed math fact tests are given each Wednesday.
If my child is absent, how do I get assignments?
If your child is sick, please call the school office in the MORNING. Your child's work will be in the school office by the end of the day, and you may pick it up there
What is the policy for making up work when out of town?
If your child misses a test, he/she should be prepared to take the test on the day that he/she RETURNS to school. Missed classwork is also made up on the return date. This is handbook policy.
What are the requirements for timed addition/subtraction facts tests?
2nd grade students must master both addition and subtraction facts at 80% or better. Addition and Subtraction Tests are 50 facts/3 minutes, or 100 facts/6 minutes. All are facts to 18.
What is the best way to study addition/subtraction facts?
The best way to learn math facts is to study using flashcards everyday, consistently. Other games enhance learning but should not be a substitute for studying flashcards. Visit "links" page for math help; make your own flashcards and practice tests. Flashcards may be purchased at Barnetts or The Teaching Tree.
What is the best way to help my child with homework responsibility?
You should read your child's homework assignment notebook everyday. As your child completes each assignment, he/she should check that box. You should sign the notebook each day only after your child has completed all assignments. Make sure your child puts all work back into the HW folder.
How much should my child read each night?
You should have your child read aloud to you for 10-15 minutes. You should also take turns and read aloud to your child. Silent, independent reading should also be encouraged.
What are the Reading Counts policies?
We encourage children to read books appropriate for their Lexile level. We do not require them to take a Reading Counts test but we will certainly give them time at school to do this. Students receive a certificate in the classroom for earning 25 points, 50 points, and 125 points. Once they reach 250 points, they will be awarded a certificate in chapel. The next level to receive a certificate in chapel is 500 points then 1,000! All of these certificates are displayed at school by the classroom.
If my child is tardy in the morning what should I do?
Your child is required to be in the classroom by 8:25. If tardy, your child must be signed in at the office with you. Your child will then receive a pass to class. If this procedure is not followed, your child will be marked absent for the day.

Your child must bring a pre-purchased lunch ticket for lunch each day. You may purchase groups of 25 tickets at a reduced rate in the office. Your child may bring his/her lunch from home. Milk tickets may be purchased as well. Candy and soft drinks are prohibited. *Parents are welcome to eat with their children. You may eat at the picnic tables outside the lunchroom or in the cafeteria at a designated GUEST table. You are not permitted to eat at the children's tables. This is a Lower School rule. You must eat at the scheduled lunch time...TBA.

Be prepared to WAIT especially during the first few weeks of school. No cellular devices are allowed while driving on campus.
